The measurement of alpha-amylase in 24-hour urine evaluates the activity of an enzyme involved in carbohydrate digestion. Alpha-amylase is mainly produced by the pancreas and salivary glands and is subsequently excreted through the kidneys.
The test is used for the diagnosis and monitoring of pancreatic diseases, as well as certain metabolic and digestive disorders.

Procedure
