Candida albicans is an opportunistic yeast-like fungus that may be part of the normal human microbiota, including the intestinal tract, oral cavity, and urogenital mucosa.
Under certain conditions (weakened immunity, chronic diseases, microbial imbalance), Candida albicans may cause fungal infections of the skin and urogenital area, including candidal balanitis.
The PCR test allows detection of Candida albicans DNA in a biological sample and confirms the presence of a fungal infection.
Indications
- redness, itching, or discomfort in the glans penis area
- suspected candidal balanitis
- recurrent fungal infections of the skin or mucosa
- diabetes mellitus
- weakened immune system
- antibiotic or immunosuppressive therapy
- monitoring treatment effectiveness
Procedure
- sample collection is performed in a medical setting
- a urogenital swab from the glans penis is taken
- if necessary, a urethral swab may be performed
- a sterile single-use instrument is used
- superficial mucosal material is collected
- mild, short-term discomfort may occur

Preparation:
