Hepatology is a branch of medicine that studies the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts, as well as their diseases.
A hepatologist is responsible for:
- diagnosing liver and biliary system diseases
- treating viral hepatitis (A, B, C, etc.)
- monitoring patients with fatty liver disease
- managing cirrhosis and its complications
- evaluating liver function through lab tests and ultrasound
- selecting treatment and preventing disease progression
